A revised lunch menu can be downloaded from here
(note addition of Fish & Chips and Pie and Chips options)

» Orders should be in by 12pm Wednesdays, including beverage choice (we can accommodate late orders, except for Club Sandwiches and Paninis, as we order those in)
» All members must pre-order, including beverages
» Advise if your order is a standing weekly order, then you will only need to email if you wish to amend or cancel the order
» Changes may be made until 10am Thursday (except Club Sandwiches and Paninis)
» Lunch will be put on the group table 12:30-12:45pm

August is Membership and New Club Development Month
The changing face of Rotary
Waitakere Rotary's changeover of leaders earlier this month marked the club's 50th anniversary and a major turning point for an organisation with a traditional membership of middle-aged, and ageing, Pākehā businessmen.
Kriddles Roberts, the surprising new president of Waitakere Rotary, has an extraordinary story - born into the gang life, experiencing homelessness, starting a charity and now joining a "bigger machine".
In a Radio New Zealand podcast she tells about her "colourful" start to life, and her own experiences of poverty that led her to start the charity Unity in our Community. She explains why she's taken up the leadership of a conventional organisation to boost her work.

George Sabonadiere in Austria
Last week George told us about his 2019 Rotary Exchange visit to Vienna. He found it was initially a bit of a culture shock, as he had jet lag, only  very basic German language and it was winter. However there was a definite upside as the Rotary host family owned the biggest brewery in the country and were comfortably well off.  He was determined to pick up the language as much as possible and attended school, as an 18 year old in a class of 15-16 year olds. Not surprisingly universal, when the teacher was out of the room, the class went crazy. The host family also helped him with the German language.  The 2nd family were also Rotarians. He was interested that there were no women at Rotary and at the next meeting, women were separate. Subsequently he joined 16+ Rotary for a bus trip to Paris, skiing in the Alps, 6 countries over an 18 day trip. George feels his experiences have made him much more resilient. Sometime he would like to visit Austria again as, it has been a life changing experience, for which he is most grateful for the amazing opportunity.

Octacan 2020
Around 80 cans collected at last weeks meeting were added to the total in the Octagon, along with some money that members had donated.
A modest contribution to their overall total of more than 10,000 but nevertheless very worthwhile.
