Members are encouraged to attend Thursday lunch meetings whenever they can. They are an opportunity for fellowship, to hear interesting speakers, and to catch up with our Club activities.
Please remember that if you are unable to join our lunch meetings in person, we can still provide a Zoom option.

Meal Orders - Update
The café has noted that many of our Rotary members and guests are now ordering on arrival. This makes it difficult for them to manage staffing levels and keep up the level of service for us, as well as their other guests.
As a club, we appreciate the use of the venue facilities free of charge.
To maintain this it is appreciated if you would please remember to pre-order your food and drink from the lunch menu ahead of time!
Our construction industry is losing nearly one person every week to suicide, and 98% of those that we lose are our men. The MATES programme builds and strengthens communities in the workplace and across the industry – helping our people to be supportive and provide an environment that encourages positive wellbeing. Calder Stewart Construction have been providing General Awareness Training at their worksites and offered our club the opportunity to cook a BBQ Breakast for aound 40 of their workers at their Kiwirail Hillside site. Brian, Alistair, Bruce, Peter, Neil and President Fiona reported for duty at 6.30 AM last Monday and spent 90 minutes cooking Bacon, Eggs, Sausages, Onions, Bread & Butter in return for a donation towards club projects.
Jack was born in Dunedin and educated at Wakari School, Balmacewen Intermediate, Otago Boys High School, Otago University and Otago Polytechnic (his university study was a B.A. in PPE- Philosophy, Politics and Economics under Prof Jim Flynn; and his polytechnic study in Journalism). He was a journalist with Allied Press Ltd for 12 years many of which were spent in South Otago (and the Clutha Leader). Jack is currently a Personal Development Facilitator at Richard Joseph and Associates utilising skills gained both formally and informally (including RYLA/Rotary). Jacks first exposure to Rotary was when a work colleague suggested that he attend a RYLA programme. Although somewhat indifferent he agreed - and found the experience, with its wide mix of cultures, political leanings and ideologies "life changing" to the extent that he has agreed to return as a facilitator next year. Jack told us that joining groups (such as Rotary) is not common amongst his generation. It is very easy to become “disconnected “ from society and overly reliant on technology although this is not quite so bad in smaller towns where everyone knows everyone else. Joining Rotary could provide a connection with the community. Jack is very happy to be part of Rotary.

Christmas Appeal Reminder!
The Community Projects Group is organising a Christmas appeal again this year. Donations will go to the Salvation Army’s clients. David McEwen naturally is well informed as to their needs and advises that while all contributions will be gratefully accepted their foodbank is especially low in biscuits, cheese and coffee. They are also looking for Christmas treats - things families in need cannot afford (and might not normally get in a food parcel). Cash donations would also be appreciated and the funds will be used to purchase supplies. Please bring any contributions you are able to make to our lunch time meetings on either December 1st or 8th.

Two Fat Ladies, Legs Eleven, Kellys Eye... Like something out of a British soap opera the Dunedin South Rotary "Bingo" night was a lot of fun and raised much needed funds for the Otago Community Hospice.
Bruce Cowan, Bruce Collier and President Fiona went along for a laugh - and had plenty! Bruce Collier also managed to win one "line" prize and two "house" prizes and Bruce Cowan won a raffle prize.
It was also a celebration of the clubs 65th anniversary complete with a birthday cake, and short presentations outlining highlights of their history and club and Rotary International current projects. This was great P.R. with a number of non-rotarian guests present.

Amazing night at the Grand Business South Awards on Friday. Very proud to be part of the team that won the Brand Strategy and Planning Award. A lot of work has been put in to bring the Richard Joseph business and brand into a new era, and continue the great work Richard started more than 30 years ago.
