Members are encouraged to attend Thursday lunch meetings whenever they can. They are an opportunity for fellowship, to hear interesting speakers, and to catch up with our Club activities.

Long Live The King!
The world is mourning the loss of Queen Elizabeth II, Britain's longest-reigning monarch.
Meantime we are coming to terms with the idea that we have a new head of state - His Majesty King Charles III "To detractors, the new King is weak, vain, interfering, and ill-equipped for the role of sovereign.
He has been ridiculed for talking to plants and obsessing over architecture and the environment, and will long be associated with his failed first marriage to the late Princess Diana.
Supporters say that is a distortion of the good work he does, that he is simply misunderstood and that in areas such as climate change he has been ahead of his time.
They argue he is thoughtful and concerned about his fellow Britons from all communities and walks of life."(Newshub.co.nz)
A "Google" search yielded a couple of interesting facts: (1) While Prince of Wales, Charles was an Honorary Member, Rotary Club of Banchory-Ternan, D1010 UK.
(2) In recognition of his longstanding focus on nature-based solutions to address the climate crisis, Rotary recently (June 2022) presented HRH Prince Charles with its highest honour: The Rotary Award of Honour. This award was established by Rotary International in 1990 to be given to heads of state and other dignitaries who have made a significant contribution to international understanding and goodwill.
If you look carefully at the photograph above, you may just be able to discern a Rotary pin on his lapel!
Rotary Day of Action, Saturday 24 September- call for volunteers to collect food at a supermarket between 9am and 3pm
It’s happening again! We are part of a combined Dunedin and Mosgiel Rotary food/grocery item collection day in conjunction with Kiwi Harvest at 6 supermarkets around the city.
We have been allocated the Countdown Dunedin South (323 Andersons Bay Road) and already the roster is filling but we do need more people please.
We presently need one more person for 9am-10am, one for 11am -12pm, and two people each from 1-2, 2-3, actually the more the merrier at any time during the 9-3 period as we are supporting other clubs some of which have supermarkets with two entrances to cover!

RYLA
Rotary Young Leaders Awards (RYLA) is a five-day residential high energy programme designed to further develop young leaders. Our club has traditionally sponsored participants through the Youth Projects group, however there are other ways that suitable candidates could be nominated:
Ask local corporate/business to sponsor a progressive young leader within their business. Offer RYLA as a reward for their ‘Apprentice of the Year’. “RYLA is one of the most cost-effective leadership courses available and the value back to their business would be priceless. Community leaders or organisations like churches, St John, the Fire Service, Foundations and Charitable Trusts etc, who may consider offering a scholarship or sponsorship to a young person within their organisation.

Matthews involvement in Night 'n Day Foodstores began when he started working in his parents Regent Road store in his early teens and he continued to work in the business while completing a commerce degree, majoring in accounting, at the University of Otago.
He then worked at Deloitte for four years and obtained his chartered accountancy qualification, before returning to Night ’n Day where he held various roles within the business development and finance departments before shifting to the general manager role in 2019.
He was part of a panel that appeared before the Commerce Commission last year as a probe continued into competition in the retail grocery sector.
