The month of May celebrated 30 years of women in Rotary. As such, I thought it appropriate to celebrate some of our own female club members.

We have many talented female members in our club. Lynne Guy joined our club in July 2009, and served on the Vocational Committee from then until 2016. Most of that time, Lynne was active as convener. That committee was wound up in 2016, when Lynne moved to the Administration/PR committee. She has remained active within the club, involved in many club projects and is a great example of someone who is always willing to put her hand up. One of these things that Lynne has put her hand up for is the Four Way speech competition. Lynne was involved in the club competition for many year and for the past two years, Lynne has been the organizer of the competition from a District level. This involves a number of logistics, including getting the information out to all the schools, organizing judges, setting dates for the area finals and district competition, getting information out to all the clubs to organize their own club competitions, and sourcing prizes. Lynne has done this all with ease and enthusiasm.

Paul Harris founded Rotary on the 23rd February 1905. From the organisation’s beginnings in Chicago, Rotary is now made up of 1.3 million members in more than 200 countries.

Rotary is the world’s leading service organisation, making a huge difference to the lives of individuals, communities and countries throughout the world, providing targeted assistance through six areas of humanitarian focus and exemplifying the motto of “Service above Self”.

Rotary is only able to make the difference it does because of the contributions made by members and by others. Today it is a privilege to be able to recognise the contribution made over many years, and in many ways, by Lynne

The presentation of a Paul Harris Fellowship award, named after the founder of Rotary, is the way our Club can formally acknowledge the contribution of an individual to our Club, to our community, and to the work of Rotary around the world.

Please join with me in congratulating and thanking Lynne as I present her with a Paul Harris Fellowship award.
